It is with mixed feelings that I share this news with you. The British Columbia Provincial Health Services Authority has appointed Dr Malcolm Moore, currently Head of Medical Oncology and Hematology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, to the position of president of the BC Cancer Agency, effective September 2015.
Malcolm has been part of the Princess Margaret fabric for over 30 years. His research has defined the standard of care in a number of genitourinary and gastrointestinal malignancies. Together with Lillian Siu and Amit Oza, Malcolm created the highly innovative and immensely successful Bras Drug Development Program at Princess Margaret (DDP). He is internationally renowned for his expertise in pancreatic cancer and is currently the President of the International Society of Gastrointestinal Oncology. In addition, he mentored a large number of young oncologists many of whom now occupy key leadership roles nationally and internationally.
This appointment is a huge win for the BC Cancer Agency that has benefited from the leadership imported from the Princess Margaret in the past. It also represents a huge opportunity for Malcolm to direct the BCCA to its right place as one of the leading cancer institutions in Canada. I am sure there will be enhanced opportunities for collaboration with BCCA under his leadership and therefore we will continue to work with Malcolm.
Please join me in congratulating Malcolm on this appointment. There will be many opportunities to thank him for his leadership at the Princess Margaret in the ensuing weeks and months.
